Identity in Christ

Are you living by the identity the world has given you? Are you believing the lies of the enemy that have been spoken over your life? If what you’ve been told does not match with who God says you are—what He has said about you in His Living Word—then what you’re living by is a false identity.

  • How do I know I’m living by a false identity?

Do you feel insecure? Are you looking for “love” in others, in a spouse, in your children? Do you get comfort and security from the job title you have, the amount of income you make, or with your material possessions? Anything outside of the Word of God—identifying with worldly things—is a false identity. God’s Word is truth, and He loves you so much that through Christ, you have been given authority and identity.

Prayer for Receiving Identity in Christ

Dear Lord Jesus,

Thank You for saving me! Thank You for seating me on high in heavenly realms with You. Thank You for making me a Child of the Most High God. I am not forsaken or abandoned, but deeply loved by my Father who loves me and formed me in my mother’s womb. I have been predestined to be adopted into sonship through Christ, and I receive this identity now.

Forgive me for letting the lies of the enemy define me. I am not what the world says I am, but who Your Word has called me to be. I am a beloved Son/Daughter of the great I AM. I bind all future lies of the enemy and humbly accept my title to sonship through Christ today. Thank You, Jesus. May I humbly live my life for you, in Your love, mercy, and grace.

In Jesus mighty name. Amen.

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.

Colossians 3:1-3

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.
