Living Stones

By Keiko Shinn | Rediscovering Prayer

You know that because of the wars waged against my father David from all sides, he could not build a temple for the Name of the Lord his God until the Lord put his enemies under his feet. But now the Lord my God has given me rest on every side, and there is no adversary or disaster.
1 Kings 5:3-4

In order to build the temple of God, King David had to first wait on God to defeat his enemies. The builder of that temple would become his son, Solomon. This narrative found in the Old Testament is mirrored in the New Testament. In the same way, Jesus, the Son of God, is the Temple Builder. Jesus is the builder of our lives. He is our foundation, one that cannot be torn down or shaken. His name sustains our identity, our comings and our goings. Jesus has the authority to rebuild our lives because he knows the end from the beginning.

Jesus restores us like no one else can. His restoration is our healing. Jesus heals through a relationship that won’t break under pressure, a commitment, and a dedication to provide and protect your heart when danger comes. In this life we will have tribulation but we can take courage and know we will overcome. He defeated and destroyed the works of the evil once and for all by canceling the power of sin and eternal death for all mankind so that we could enter into His rest.

The Word of God affirms: Healing is His children’s bread. Jesus heals every battle scar and every wound from the deepest levels of suffering that no other is able to tend. His healing is alive and active, Jesus reaches into your past, present, and future and recollects the broken pieces of your heart to bring about a renewed identity and draw out the best outcome.

Praise the Lord, my soul,
and forget not all his benefits—
who forgives all your sins
   and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,
who satisfies your desires with good things so
that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
Psalm 103: 2-5

Jesus destroyed the works of the evil one and nullified sins hold for all mankind that we might be the eternal temple of the Lord. Buildings manufactured by the hands of man come and go with the passing of time but Jesus established His temple through the power of His eternal identity. Jesus is the Verb of life. His love is active and eternally good. Because it’s His nature to love, He gives. Jesus laid His physical body on a cross, to carry the weight of our sin. He swallowed up death in His body leaving His Spirit to be poured upon all people that we would be His holy temple.

Jesus laid down His life only to raise it back up again in a new bodily form: through His people. Your light is not to be diminished or to be hidden. Your light is His splendor reigning over you to be the viable solution for a broken world. What makes an invisible God visible is the love manifested through His children. To say: I am a follower of Christ is to let go of the reigns of life and hand over the power and control into the rightful hands of Jesus. It is in relationship with Jesus, within the space of intimacy with Him that orients us into a place of rest and confidence. We can remain in a perpetual stance of victory in the face of every obstacle because Jesus goes before us. We have the power to love because we love without expecting anything in return.

Jesus already defeated your foe and made His healing available for you today and tomorrow. He is the bread of life and so we come and take from Him, we will lack no good thing and we will hunger and thirst no more. Let us love God boldly and illustrate the potency of His love to others. Believe Him. God has truly given us rest on every side. By His Spirit we walk in a love that breaks chains, brings healing and deliverance from every side as we are being built up like living stones, a spiritual house where God lives by His Spirit. Receive the power of His Holy Spirit today!

Prayer: Lord, I receive your Holy Spirit in my heart. You have called me into a lifestyle of daily worship and a dynamic relationship with you.
