Walking in the Blessings of God

What is the blessing of God? Blessing can mean several things. One definition is to be made holy or consecrated or endowed with divine favor and protection. Ephesians 1:3 says that our heavenly Father has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in heavenly places. This means that God provided spiritual treasures for us when we became part of the family of God.

Proverbs 10:22 says that the blessing of that Lord brings true riches, and He adds no sorrow to it. God’s blessings bring joy to our lives!

Scripture reveals the many ways God loves to bless His people. He is a loving God who desires to give us His best. Blessings can be described as wealth, health, inheritance, land, and abundance. The Bible clearly shows us that our God is not a God of lack, but a He is a God of more than enough. John 21 describes how the disciples went out on their boats to fish, but caught nothing. When Jesus appeared on the shore, He instructed them to throw out their nets again. When they did, they had so many fish in their nets that they were not able to pull the nets into the boat. What can we see from this picture? God provided abundance.

God established principles in His word that give us access to His blessing. As we walk in obedience, we come into agreement with heaven. For instance, if we tithe, God says that pests will not devour our crops and our vines will not drop its fruit before it is ripe. In other words, the enemy will have no right to steal from us. If we are generous and lend freely, the blessing will be upon our children. When we are highly favored, God promises to be with us.

Psalm 37 talks about those that will wait on God and pursue righteousness. He promises to cause them to inherit the land and will delight themselves in abundant prosperity and peace. The steps of a good and righteous man are directed of the Lord, and He blesses his path.

God desires to bless individuals, regions, and nations. Israel was a nation that was blessed of the Lord. All the people knew that Israel was God’s chosen and favored people. God caused the Israelites to defeat their enemies and gather the spoils and lands after the battles.  The Israelites multiplied, even in captivity. Even today, the people of Israel lead the world in inventions and science, income, and military force. They still carry God’s favor and blessing.

We can position ourselves for the blessing by being obedient to God’s word and applying the powerful truths to our lives. As we walk in these truths, God promises to respond to His word and release His blessing to His people.
