Are you carrying a hardened heart? God highlights how His Chosen people had hardened hearts throughout the Bible. Even Jesus’ own disciples struggled with having hardened hearts (Mark 8). How much more could we have the same struggle?
The problem with having a hardened heart is that God cannot mold and shape your heart. As believers, we want God to mold and shape our hearts to look more like His! We should be people after God’s own heart!
Rather than being transformed, our hearts harden as we begin to believe in the enemy’s lies. It happens when we get hurt, give into pride, suffer through setbacks and disappointments, and the list goes on. You could probably think of some things from your past that have hardened your heart.
How do you soften a hardened heart? You must come back to the truth about God. He is your Creator, and His laws are the standard on how this world runs. He is constantly seeking to heal and restore every defect in those who trust Him. When you trust Him, then you must pray like David did, fully seeking God’s heart for a pure heart and a steadfast spirit.
God can heal any heart once we recognize our disobedience and repent of our sins. But true repentance is more than simply a feeling and saying, I’m sorry. Repentance results in a completely changed life, a supernatural turn around. This means that you don’t turn back again to the same sin; you turn away from it and never look back.
After repenting of our sins and studying and meditating on God’s Word, God begins to heal your heart. If you are going to live life to the fullest as God intended, you need to study and obey God’s written Word, which not only keeps a heart soft, moldable and pure, but allows you to be blessed in whatever you do (Joshua 1:8; James 1:25).
I think the biggest roadblock that most Christians experience is them convincing themselves that they are doing okay. They get in this comfortable lifestyle. It’s a dangerous sign when you are not continually growing in your Christian faith. If you are not growing towards God, you are growing towards something else.
Don’t ever think “you have arrived”, because the truth is, we will only “arrive” when we meet Jesus face to face. You have to come to the point that you are seeking God first for ALL of your needs. Your dependence should be on Him, because He is the giver of all things good.
I encourage you to develop an intimate prayer life. Prayer has been turned into some type of magical formula that gets God to do what we want. Prayer is not designed to be used as a wish list. It is supposed to be a deep and intimate conversation with your heavenly Father. It’s time to get back to that intimacy with God. Always praise Him.
Learn to seek His face. I am giving you the key to seeing your hard heart softened. When we seek God and His kingdom, our focus is taken off of the things of this world and onto something supernaturally amazing. If you want the beauty and glory of God in your life, then you can only obtain it when you seek it.
