The cross is more than a symbol of Christianity. It is a powerful reminder of the price that Jesus paid for our freedom. His death on the cross redeemed us from the power of death and destruction and paid for us to have eternal life with God.
When Adam and Eve sinned against God, it meant that every person born would be born with a sin nature which would separate us from Father God. The only way to be reconciled back to Him would be through His Son, Jesus. Jesus came to earth born a man, lived a sinless life, and took sin upon himself and died on the cross. His own Father had to look away from Him and allow Jesus to pay the penalty for us. Three days later, Jesus rose again and defeated death, hell, and the grave. In John 14:6, Jesus tells Thomas, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Jesus isthe only way.
The death and resurrection of Jesus not only gave us the right to come back to Father God, but it provided a way for us to be free from the curse because Jesus became a curse for us. Galatians 3:13 says, “Christ purchased our freedom and redeemed us from the curse of the Law and its condemnation by becoming a curse for us—it is written, ‘cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree.’”
Accepting the gift of salvation gives us entrance into the family of God. Ephesians 1:5 says that God decided in advance to adopt us into His own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. Belonging to the family of God means that we are never alone. Being a son or daughter of God means that we have been given a heavenly inheritance. Ephesians 1:11 says that because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God.
Being in Christ makes us a new creation. Our sin nature has been buried with Christ, and we now have a new nature. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold all things have become new.” Our sin nature can no longer rule our behavior. He has given us the ability to live like Jesus.
Jesus also paid the price for our healing and deliverance. When sickness or infirmity tries to attack us, we must stand and declare that it has no right to our bodies. Jesus not only died for our freedom, He was beaten and bruised for our healing. Isaiah 53:5 says “He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on Him, and by His wounds we are healed.” Sickness has no right to stay in our bodies. He paid for us to walk in health.
Jesus went to the cross, was beaten and bruised, and died for us to walk in freedom: spirit, soul and body. We must come into agreement with this truth and walk in the freedom He has given us. The enemy will try to convince us otherwise, but we must stand in faith and receive the victory.
