Although the Fruits of the Spirit can be evident in an unbelieving person’s life, it is ultimately the Holy Spirit that supernaturally empowers the believer to demonstrate these on a level that society only hopes to attain. The Holy Spirit brings awakening to the child of God not only to do no evil but the ability to live in an identity that demonstrates a superior discipline in every area that is yielded to the Divine. The Apostle Paul concludes in Galatians 5:25 the if we have been spiritually awakened or made alive by the Spirit of God, then we should therefore live daily and move by the Spirit of God which will consequently produce fruit in our lives.
Being spiritual, in the Christian sense, requires the Holy Spirit. Jesus said in John 16:13, the Holy Spirit of Truth would lead and guide us in all truth. Jesus said also in John 14:15, if we love Him, we will keep His commandments. However, knowing that living the commandments is impossible in the natural sense, in verse 16, He said that God would give us the Holy Spirit to be our helper. Saint Augustine of Hippo had a great understanding of this concept in the early fourth century of the Roman Catholic Church.
“Breathe in me O Holy Spirit, that my thoughts may all be holy. Act in me O Holy Spirit, that my work, too, may be holy. Draw my heart O Holy Spirit, that I love but what is holy. Strengthen me O Holy Spirit, to defend all that is holy. Guard me, then, O Holy Spirit, that I always may be holy. Amen.”
Just as the water from the roots gives life to the vine’s branches to produce leaves, flowers, and fruit, so should the Holy Spirit be to the believer. Christ the true vine of John 15 has given us His Holy Spirit to empower us daily with truth, wisdom and understanding for every area of life. When the believer yields to the Holy Spirit, their life will produce abundance that is unparalleled by the natural man.
Let’s Pray!
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for being the great gardener that You are. Thank You for giving life to us through the True Vine, Jesus Christ. Now Father, I ask You to fill me with Your Holy Spirit and awaken my understanding. I ask Holy Spirit to transform my life in every way so that I can yield good fruit. I ask all this in the Name of my Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
