Addiction is a problem that affects many people. Addiction is a dependency on a substance or person or activity that is fueled by the need to medicate or silence tormenting thoughts or hidden grief. The world calls addiction a brain disease. But addiction is born out of trauma. Addiction is not the way God created us to live. It is a coping mechanism. It is a trick of the enemy to bring us to a place of bondage and destruction.
Jesus died on the cross, allowed Himself to go through beating and bruising, and then rose again so that we can be free from death, hell and the grave. Not only does that mean that when we accept Jesus’ sacrifice that we will go live with God for eternity, but it also means that we can live free from sin and bondage here on earth. In Luke 4:18, Jesus says, “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim the good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free.” This means freedom from addiction!
If you are ready to be free, He has made a way for you. Ask Holy Spirit to bring healing to any broken places in your heart. Allow Him to touch those places that bring pain. Allow God to minister to your heart and bring comfort and peace.
1 Corinthians 10:13-14 tells us, “The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more that you can stand. When you are tempted, He will show you a way out so that you can endure.” Know that you are not alone.
Addictions are not uncommon, but they are a trap and a set up from the enemy. Satan’s plan is to deceive and destroy, but God made a way for us to be completely free. It starts with coming to God and submitting everything to Him. He promises to finish what He has started.
