Jesus: The Great Physician

Jesus: The Great Physician

Written by Abby Lively

Dear Friend, I am so sorry to hear that you are struggling physically, mentally, spiritually, or even all the above. I understand this can be such an exhausting and debilitating life when suffering from pain. However, when we experience pain, it is a chance for us to grow stronger. I have experienced this first hand in my personal life.

On a peaceful spring evening, I found myself waking up in an ambulance. It was a car accident that forever changed my life. The paramedics were having problems finding a good vein to put in the I.V. I had blood pouring from my mouth and massive trauma to my head. I remember the paramedic saying to me, “Stay awake or you’ll die, please fight to stay awake.” Even though I was going in and out of all this trying to stay awake, I knew I had to fight to live as some of you are doing now.

I was very attentive to the paramedic’s words even though I was cold as if I was turning into a corpse. I was barely breathing as they put several blankets upon my body attempting to keep me warm. It was loud and scary in the ambulance, but his words kept me fighting to stay awake. I was taken by helicopter to a hospital where they could maybe care for the extent of my injuries. I needed a real miracle. I couldn’t eat for days. I couldn’t bathe. I couldn’t comb through my hair.

As a result, my emotional state was disturbed and vulnerable. I experienced traumatic events in my childhood that left holes in my heart. Not only did I need physical healing but also emotional healing. Following the physical and emotional healing, I needed spiritual healing. I had been told to follow God, but no one showed me how. I was broken and in need of a real miracle—emotionally, physically, and spiritually.

Proverbs 4:20-22 My son, be attentive to my words; incline your ear to my sayings.Let them not escape from your sight;keep them within your heart. For they are life to those who find them, and healing to all their[a] flesh.Do you need a real miracle? I think of how quickly I responded to the paramedic and doctors instructions but how seldom I listened to Gods instruction. How many times does God speak to us but we don’t incline our ears to what he is speaking through the Holy Spirit and the word of God?

What if the paramedic was telling me to stay awake but I was listening to the sirens or my fear? What if I didn’t incline my ear to paramedic trying to help me live? Or what If I would heard the voice, but only fought to stay awake for a moment because the voice of fear lured me in?

God wants His children to listen to His words, be attentive, incline our ears to His teachings, do not let them go from our sight, and keep them written upon our hearts. If we do this, we will find life and healing for all of our flesh. He wants to heal our bodies and our souls. He loves you so much and wants you to come to Him. He wants you to find rest and peace in Him. Satan comes to kill, steal, and destroy us. God comes to heal and restore us back to health. Is He speaking to you to mediate on His words day and night?

The book of Joshua proclaims, “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success” (Joshua 1:8). For too long, I put blankets over the coldness of my heart, but these blankets never could keep me warm for long. Some of us may put Band-Aids on the wounds but only for our emotions to surface later in life. We try to cover it up instead intentionally spending time with our God and listening to his instructions.

His instructions are always for our good and to bring us health and life. I don’t know about you, but I know I want life and healing for all my flesh and wounds. God in the scripture you healed the woman with the issue of blood because she pursued you and believed in you. We thank you God that you sent your son Jesus Christ, who died a brutal death, taking upon our sins, that we would be reconciled and have a relationship with you. Thank you for the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, who leads us to all truth. We invite the Holy Spirit into this prayer and to lead us into all truth. God I pray right now that you would come a sit with us.

I pray that you would touch your beloved son or daughter now and would they feel your almighty presence. God I pray that you would speak to them and that they would pay attention to you and what you’re saying because it will bring healing to them. I pray that that would feel your love peace would fill their hearts. I bind all demonic forces of the evil one and I cover this person seeking you with the blood of the Lamb, Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
