Overcoming Fear of People

Looking back I recognize that I had a problem.  I had a lot of fear of people in my life.  Perhaps, you have this same problem.  I want to encourage you in your battle and I want to be your spiritual cheerleader.  You are part of the Dream Team/God’s Church and you can overcome any fear.

What is fear?

It is that terrifying, oppressive emotion which can paralyze a person.  It is thinking of the worse and this causes stress.

But, where the spirit of God is, there is freedom.  So today you can be free from the fear of people.  You are not going to be afraid of bullies or intimidators anymore.  We need Jesus to come and do his work in our hearts, by the wonderful work of the Holy Spirit.

You need to ask, “Why am I feeling this way?” or “Why am I anxious around this person?”  We need to get to the bottom of this, because God does not want you to live like this.

Maybe your value of yourself is based on other people’s opinions or their verbal abuse.  And the devil uses this to make you feel that you have no value and that makes you fearful.

Maybe you were physically abused, were rejected or betrayed. Maybe your parents were sarcastic, insulting, fault finding people.

Many times we who are fearful are labeled as shy and are in our own shell.  We don’t want to be around someone that we fear.  We really can’t like, love or respect someone whom we fear.  If you fear someone, that person is your enemy.

Parents, do you want your children to fear you?  Whoever you fear becomes your enemy.  Of course your children should respect you, but not be afraid of you.   Pray with your children. And ask them for forgiveness when you do wrong.  It will help them so much.  And it will help your relationship.  Even reconciliation can go easier when your children are not anxious of what you will say or do.

We hear on the news many times about someone who was so quiet, and then one day something happens and they carry out a crazy or terrible plan.  They hate the fear and they execute their plan to put terror into other people’s lives because of their own lingering fear.  There is always a breaking point. This is why we need God’s remedy, not man’s way of dealing with fear of people.

None of us are better than anyone else.  We shouldn’t be in fear of one another.  God is always with us.  As scripture says, “For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you” (Isaiah 41:13).  Many times God tells his people, “Fear not”.

Fear brings oppression, which can turn into depression.  Islam is operated by fear.  Being raised in a Muslim country, I know about the oppression of that culture.  The people are under dictatorship in the Muslim world.  Fear and oppression go together.  When I go to visit a Muslim country, I can feel that oppression as soon as the airplane lands.

Put your faith into Practice.

There are demonic forces bringing influence which causes the fear. And we will have to bind these.  The moment they start pushing me around, I say, “I bind this in the name of Jesus.  It will have no power over me.  It will not bully or intimidate me.  And I am not going to allow this evil to turn me into a doormat.  I release Holy Spirit’s love and peace here, right now, in Jesus’ name, amen.”  When you are a child of God, you have his authority to bind the fear, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7).  This is God-given authority to overcome the fear.

God tells Joshua, “Have I not commanded you, Be strong and courageous?  Do not be afraid. Do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9).  God says the same thing to us.   Let us take God at His Word and trust Him.

Today the fear of people has to leave.

Lord, I am praying right now over Dream Church.  Each and every person in the congregation, they are all yours.  You have spoken to their hearts that they shouldn’t be living in fear any longer.  We only have to fear/revere you, nobody else.  From this day on, Lord, please forgive us.  We confess and repent of our fear of people.  We ask for complete healing and restoration and deliverance today of our hearts.  We ask that you completely uproot that fear of people from our hearts.  They cannot rule over us, they cannot have power over us.  We only submit to you, Lord Jesus.  We ask that you fill our hearts with such joy, love and power, and that you make us brave.  Make us brave!  In Jesus’ name I pray.  Amen

Jesus Christ came to set you free from the fear of people.
