Supernatural Protection of God

God has given us promises in His word about supernatural protection. As we apply His word to our lives, we cooperate and agree with these promises.

Even though we read all of the promises of God, sometimes we may doubt because we can see the opposite happening in the world, just by listening to the news or social media. Yet His word is clear about the supernatural protection available to us, but as with all of the promises of God, it requires us to participate to see these promises manifest. The greatest way we can do this is to believe and have faith. Faith is the vehicle that gives us access to His promises.

One of the greatest chapters to stand on for supernatural protection is Psalm 91. The first few scriptures of Psalm 91 say, “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High God will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him will I trust.’ Surely, He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge.” This passage shows us that as we draw close to God and stay in a place of intimacy with Him, we are under His protection. In verse 4 it says “He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge.”

King David had many opportunities to fear for his life. When he was a shepherd, he had to protect the sheep from the wild animals that would try to kill them. When he played for King Saul, he was in constant danger of Saul’s demonic rages. David eventually fled for his life as Saul searched for him to kill him. Yet in all of this, David expresses the goodness of God in caring for him in Psalm 23. David writes, “The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures, he leads me besides still waters he restores my soul.” And in verses 4 and 5, “yeah though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil. For You are with me. Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.” David had confidence in the protection of his God, even in the midst of unlikely circumstances.

God speaks a wonderful promise to us in Isaiah 54:17. Here He declares, “No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgement you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord and their righteousness is from Me, says the Lord.” You can see that God made every provision for us to walk in divine protection. It is our heritage if we belong to God through Jesus Christ. As we lean into His presence and abide with Him, He will be our covering. We can rest as David did by still waters in green pastures, and we can also declare that because of our heritage, no weapon will find its mark in us. These are the promises that He has given us. Let us lay hold of them and walk in His protection.
